January 31, 2012: Part Time Funeral Attendant or Licensed Funeral Director, Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home & Hamilton Harron Funeral Home in Vancouver, BC

An exciting opportunity exists for a part-time funeral attendant/ licensed funeral director at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home & Hamilton Harron Funeral Home in Vancouver, BC.  The successful candidate shall report to both location managers and have the following qualifications:

  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Some experience in funeral service preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service and commitment to professionalism
  • Able to physically lift  items with ease
  • Candidate must be a proven team player and contribute positively to the work environment
  • Must be detail oriented and able to meet all deadlines efficiently
  • Full commitment to company objectives and policies

Duties

  • Work evening visitations at the funeral home between the hours of 4-9 pm
  • Work occasional days assisting in the office (ie. Answering phones and front door)
  • Work occasional day and/or evening services at the funeral home or church
  • Transfer flowers from funeral home/ church to cemetery following services
  • General work around the funeral home to relieve staff during busy periods

Reporting to the General Manager, Sands Vancouver Island, the Funeral Home Manager is accountable for day-to-day operations of the funeral home and is responsible for developing, implementing and achieving the funeral home annual forecasts, strategic market plans and financial long-term objectives.  Among other responsibilities, the Manager ensures that all legal and ethical requirements are communicated to staff and are fully adhered to. You will administer the effective recruiting, training, performance management, and evaluating of all funeral home staff.  Critical to this role is your strong administrative and organizational skills.

Understanding that funeral service is constantly changing, you bring insight and creativity to your role.  You are not afraid to challenge yourself or your team by branching out into new ventures and becoming a partner in change.  You have previous experience with computers in the workplace.  Knowledge of the “Director” arrangement program, Microsoft Office programs and some desktop publishing would be an asset.
